Hi, my name is Dave.

If you’re here looking for my shared database of amphibian and nature photographs, please check out my Flickr feed!

I’m a teacher, storyteller, picture maker, and whistler of jaunty tunes. I work as a professor of visual communication and media arts at Houghton College in Western New York state.

I’m obsessed with artistic narrative and community conversation as good ways to explore science, art, politics, religion, culture, and just about any good idea you can think of.

Below are links to some of my ongoing projects online.

“Life Forms” is my personal blog of science communication and biology.

This online field guide and celebration of all things herpetological is a collaborative photography and video project with Steven David Johnson.

“Cowbird” is a digital storytelling network. My stories there focus on human encounters with the natural world.

“Salamander Slam” is my occasional videoblog about philosophy, theology, and culture.

“90 Seconds of Dave” was my original videoblog in the early days of online video. My original videos from that crazy period are archived here.
