Hi!

I really like the way you've done this photo. We are bringing Richard Louv in on May 1, and I'd love to use this in my reminder email blast to our constituents, with your permission. Would you mind if we used it?

Hey thanks for commenting! I'm typing this 15 minutes after returning from 2 hours by myself in the woods near my home. Every time i go out there i recall the freedom and initiative I cultivated at about your son's age through similar excursions. I'm working hard to overcome my worried-parent personality to prepare my kid for the same independent experiences.

When my 11 year son was walking to the band rehearsals in the suburban park by himself, past the golf course, where coyotes are denning on the far side, my neighbors were agast that I didn't drive him.

I think the Last Child in the Woods makes a lot of points about fear as a barrier to children's experience of solitude and nature. There is fear that the children won't be safe (from animals, exposure, or Weird People) and also fear that the kids will break nature.

I thought his annalysis was spot on, and it gave me some lines to re-assure my nervous neighbors with.

Shooting with a scuffed up G7 makes the photos even more impressive! I've had a G11 for the past couple of years and it just takes amazing photos. I especially love the landscape setting, the low light function and - like the G7 - the quality of the macro is pretty incredible.

Keep up the great photos!
